Here’s a great question: What is insurance?
Insurance is protection against accidental financial catastrophe. You sign up and pay money into a “community accident pool”. If a community member has an accident, the community reviews the accident and pays for the accident from the pool.
Accidents happen. No matter how careful you are, accidents happen. If slippery roads cause you to have a $100,000 three car traffic accident, who’s going to pay for that?
If you have insurance, your insurance company will pay for it.
If you choose not to have insurance, you will pay for it. The opposing party can sue you for damages you are legally deemed responsible for (by going after your assets: savings accounts, your home, your future wages, etc.)
the transfer of risk
from your family’s shoulders
to the insurance company’s shoulders.
